Modeling Soil-Facing Interface Interaction With Continuum Element Methodology

چکیده
Soil-facing mechanical interactions play an important role in the behavior of earth-retaining walls. Generally, numerical analysis structures requires use interface elements between dissimilar component materials to model soil–structure and capture transfer normal shear stresses through these discontinuities. In finite element method software programs, can be modeled using “zero-thickness” soil structural components. These a strength/stiffness reduction factor that is applied adjacent interface. However, some codes where zero-thickness (or other similar special elements) are not available, continuum only option. The approach allows more control features (i.e., material strength stiffness properties), as well sizes shapes at interfaces. This article proposes parameter values for will give same outcomes those difference commercial software. results show good agreement computed loads transferred from structure both methods interfaces). Both different modeling approaches very equivalent property demonstrate influence choice mesh size on when used

In the current work, the seismic analysis of bent region in buried pipes is performed, and effects of soil properties and modeling methods on pipe’s response are investigated. To do this task Beam, Beam-Shell Finite Element modeling and a Continuum shell FE models of a 90 degrees elbow are employed. In the Beam model, the pipe is simulated by beam elements while combined shell-beam elements a...
متن کاملContinuum Electromechanical Modeling of Protein-Membrane Interaction
A continuum electromechanical model is proposed to describe the membrane curvature induced by electrostatic interactions in a solvated protein-membrane system. The model couples the macroscopic strain energy of membrane and the electrostatic solvation energy of the system, and equilibrium membrane deformation is obtained by minimizing the electro-elastic energy functional with respect to the di...

New procedures for modeling interactions among dislocations and nanosized cracks within the dynamically evolving bridging domain method (DEBDM) have been developed. The DEBDM is an efficient concurrent atomistic-tocontinuum approach based on the bridging domain method, where the atomic domain dynamically adapts to encompass evolving defects. New algorithms for identifying and coarse graining di...
متن کاملInelastic Continuum Modeling of Carbon Nanotube,s Behavior Using Finite Element Method
This paper describes a continuum model for analyzing the inelastic behavior of a single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) in different loading conditions. Because of limitations in using molecular dynamics (and other atomic methods) to model the failure load of the SWCNT, continuum mechanics methods are considered in this paper. Based on some experimental and theoretical results, an elasto-plastic...
متن کاملNumerical investigation on the pullout shear strength of soil-nail interface using finite element method
Soil nailing is a popular reinforcement method for stabilizing slopes, excavations, and retaining walls in many countries. The pullout capacity of the soil-nail interface is a critical parameter for the design and safety assessment of soil-nailed systems. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model is developed using the commercial program ABAQUS to simulate the pullout te...
